A PRACTICAL HANDMADE PROJECT
Fold a Square Paper Tray
A shallow folded tray is useful for paper clips or sewing offcuts. Start with a practice square and keep the finished tray dry.

WHAT TO GATHER
Your starting kit.
- Square paper
- Ruler
- Scissors
STEP 01
Prepare the starting piece
Fold the square in half in both directions and unfold it; the crossing lines locate the center without adding pencil marks.
STEP 02
Set out the shape
Fold each corner into the center, then fold the upper and lower edges to meet the middle and unfold those two edges.
STEP 03
Work the first section
Open the left and right corner flaps while leaving the other two folded inward. Refold the upper and lower edges as walls.
STEP 04
Build and adjust
Lift an open end, push its diagonal creases inward, and fold its pointed flap over the wall toward the base; repeat opposite.
STEP 05
Finish and check
Square the corners gently and set the tray flat. Store only lightweight dry supplies, keeping it away from heat and liquids.
Before you begin.
What should I check before beginning?
Fold the square in half in both directions and unfold it; the crossing lines locate the center without adding pencil marks.
What is the main practical tip for this project?
Thin card can resist these folds; ordinary paper is easier for the first attempt.
